All
employees by virtue of their employment contracts are required to be
at work on a regular basis except for reasons of sickness (see note
on excessive absenteeism), vacations, statutory holidays or through
a variety of approved leaves of absence. With the exception of
Maternity and Parental Leave, all leaves have been negotiated by
your bargaining agent or granted by the Board. Leaves of Absence can
be obtained for a variety of reasons from the birth of a child to
professional development to compassionate leaves upon the death of a
family member. These are reviewed below.
Your
supervisor is your primary contact for the granting of a Leave of
Absence. Please advise your supervisor giving as much notice as
possible for review and approval.
The
following is a listing of the various leaves available to each
employee group. For detailed information, you are encouraged to
review your Collective Agreement or Out of Scope Terms and
Conditions for more details. You can visit these at the bottom of
this page. The descriptors are not intended to replace the language
in the Collective Agreement or form a contract with any employee or
replace legal descriptors found elsewhere such as under actual
provincial legislation. As well, 'Leave Types' are a general
heading used to outline which leave is being discussed. The heading
may not be the same to which you are accustomed.
